What is Breathwork?

What is Breathwork?

Breathwork is a practice that can help you open a gateway of unlimited possibilities. Your breath and the power within it is something innate - you don't require anything external to tap into this medicine.

Breathwork can support you exactly where you're at, and allow you to let go of the things that do not serve you anymore, on somatic, psychological, and spiritual levels.

A breathwork session consists of dialogue with the facilitator, followed by lying down and consciously breathing with a basic pattern. It is a simple technique that can help you feel closer to your truth, feel at home within your body, and access feelings of peace and contentment. It can help you feel more alive and present, and create a greater quality of being in your daily life.

Why Breathwork?

Breathwork is a wellness practice that can help with many things. Here are a few...

Elevate Mood

Breathwork is an effective tool for managing anxiety and stress. Rhythmic breathing helps regulate the nervous system and brain, allowing your body and mind to find calmness.

Promote Better Sleep

If you struggle with sleep, breathwork can help. By shifting your body out of fight or flight and into the parasympathetic nervous system, breathwork promotes relaxation and sleep.

Emotional Capacity

Breathwork offers a powerful opportunity for emotional release and healing. It can facilitate the release of stored emotions and energy blockages, allowing you a deeper sense of well-being.

Spiritual Growth & Purpose

Breathwork can induce non-ordinary states of consciousness and awaken inner wisdom. It can help you align with your higher purpose, truth, and direction on your life’s path.

Vibrant Health

Breathwork has been shown to have numerous physical benefits, including improving respiratory function, reducing inflammation, and boosting the immune system.

Mind-Body Connection

Breathwork helps bring awareness and breath to the places in your body where you might not be breathing fully, establishing more presence and deepening the mind-body connection.

  • What is Breathwave?
Breathwave is a gentle style of breathwork that supports physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. As we consciously open and connect our breathing in a relaxed state of being, we allow for emotional integration, clarity of mind, and connection to spirit. We breathe fully to oxygenate the body, open our breath, and feel what wants to be felt. Through this practice we begin to find more freedom in our breath, which is then reflected in our life, as each is simply a reflection of the other. This practice is done lying on our backs breathing fully and calmly in and out of the mouth for around 60 minutes. We engage the parasympathetic nervous system for a relaxed, safe, and rejuvenating breath session. The journey is guided by facilitators with music playing in the background, and each individual chooses the degree to which they breathe.
  • How does Breathwork work?
During a Breathwork session, you'll be guided to breathe rhythmically and intentionally, creating a continuous flow of breath without pauses. This technique helps oxygenate the body, release tension, and access deeper states of consciousness, facilitating emotional processing and self-discovery.
  • What are the benefits of Breathwork?
Breathwork offers a range of benefits, including stress reduction, increased energy levels, improved mental clarity, and enhanced emotional resilience. It can also help release past traumas, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of inner peace and balance.
  • Do I need any prior experience to try Breathwork?
No prior experience is necessary to benefit from Breathwork. Whether you are a beginner or have some background in breathwork, our sessions are designed to accommodate all levels of experience.
  • How many sessions do I need to experience benefits?
The number of sessions needed to experience the benefits of Breathwork varies from person to person and depends on your goals. Many individuals notice positive changes after a single session, while profound and lasting results often come with regular practice over time.
  • How do I prepare for a Breathwork session?
Preparing for a breathwork session is simple. Wear comfortable clothing and bring an open mind and heart. Your breathwork facilitator will guide you through the process and address any specific preparation requirements before the session.
  • What is the lineage of Breathwork?
The lineage of conscious connected breathwork that Jessica Wilson learned was originally taught by Haidakhan Wale Baba, a guru in India. He received the transmission while meditating in a cave in India. He taught Leanord Orr (Rebirthing Breathwork), who taught Judith Kravitz (Transformational Breath), who taught Robin Clements (Breathwave), who taught Jessica Wilson (Inner Light Breathwork). However, conscious connected breathwork is practiced in many cultures around the world, and there are many other individuals and lineages who practice a very similar technique. We know that there are Indigenous communities in BC who have practiced a similar form of breathwork that they've learned from their Elders. We also see old scripts in different parts of the world, including Europe and Asia, describing this style of breathwork too. It's possible that this has been a universal practice forgotten and remembered at different points in time.
